Friday, Oct. 21, at 6:15 AM, Beaumont Police responded to the 7500 block of College Street in reference to a major crash involving a vehicle and a bicyclist.

Investigation revealed that the bicyclist was traveling west bound in the left inside west bound travel lane (closest to the center turning lane) of College Street. The bicyclist did not have an illuminated headlight or red reflector on the rear of the bicycle.

In an statement from the Orange County Sheriff’s Office (OCSO) and Sheriff Keith Merritt, the sheriff said he and his staff are saddened to announce the loss of a valuable member of the Orange County Sheriff’s Office. Captain Tom Ray, 46, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday morning, Oct. 23, of a possible heart attack.

Eight kids from across the country are proving that you don’t need to be an adult to help out bats. These kids are members of the “Bat Squad,” a group of young people who will be introduced to schools across North America in a four-part live webcast series to be launched online at BatWeek.org during the third annual Bat Week, held this year from Oct. 24-31.
