Beaumont Police posted a Tip of the Week on Facebook Nov. 28 about holiday shopping. BPD recommends that shoppers follow these steps to protect themselves and prevent crime during the holiday season.

"Nothing can ruin a holiday spirit faster than becoming the victim of a crime," the post said. "Unfortunately, criminals view the season a little differently. The Beaumont Police Department would like to offer some safety tips to help you stay safe for the holidays."

One young woman died Sunday, Dec. 4 after a head on collision in Newton County, DPS PIO Stephanie Davis said in a release. Taylor Nicole Luther, 18, of Orange, was transported to St. Elizabeth's hospital by ambulance, but she did not survive her injuries.

Allison Nathan Getz, Tax Assessor-Collector for Jefferson County, announced Dec. 1 that the tax office in Mid-County will be closed on Thursday, Dec. 22, in order to install new registration and title system (RTS) workstation and printers. The Beaumont and Port Arthur Sub-Courthouse Tax Office locations will remain open that day.
