On Sept. 26, at approximately 2:45 p.m., the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) Troopers responded to a head-on collision on FM 1013 in Tyler County.  The crash occurred five miles East of Spurger.

Preliminary reports indicate that a 2001 Pontiac Grand Prix was traveling eastbound on FM 1013.  A 2015 Ford Mustang was traveling westbound on FM 1013.  For an unknown reason, the driver of the Pontiac crossed the center dividing line and collided head-on with the Ford Mustang.  


This beach advisory is issued, Wednesday, Sept. 26, for Sea Rim State Park and McFaddin National Wildlife Refuge beaches.

Water samples collected at locations on Sept. 12 and Sept. 25 were found to have elevated levels of the Enterococcus bacteria. The U.S. Environment Protection Agency considers anything over 104 colonies to be unsafe.

Lamar University continues to test and monitor this water and based upon their results, further advisories will be issued as necessary.

Beaumont Police responded to a call in reference to a victim of a shooting at Ave. B and Roberts, near Roberts Park the night of Tuesday, Sept. 25.

BPD told the Examiner that the victim did not want to cooperate with the investigation.


Effective Thursday, Sept. 27, the resurfacing of Babe Zaharias Drive and the parking lot for Cattail Marsh will begin. The entire circle and entry into Cattail Marsh will be closed to all thru traffic and pedestrians. The stables can be accessed using private drive off Tyrrell Park Road. Downs Road into Tyrrell Park will be closed. These streets will remain closed until project is complete. The project is estimated to be completed on or before Monday, Oct.


Troopers with the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) are investigating an accident involving two motorcycles Sept. 24, reports Sgt. Stephanie Davis.

According to Davis, troopers responded to reports of a major accident on I-10 in Jefferson County near mile marker 834 at about 9 p.m.
