The employees of ExxonMobil raised more than $940,000 for the United Way Beaumon

Through various fundraising events and a traditional campaign, the employees of ExxonMobil raised more than $940,000 for the United Way Beaumont and North Jefferson County, and a corporate contribution of $500,000 brought the total donation to $1.4 million in 2014.

A 29-year-old Kirbyville man was killed Jan. 9 when he was struck by a 2007 GMC truck as he crested a hill on F.M. 252 about one mile north of Kirbyville.

According to a news release from the Texas Department of Public Safety Trooper Stephanie Davis, Derek Smith was traveling in the northbound traffic lane of F.M. 252 when he was hit by the truck. He was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident.
