Ronald Guilbeaux, 53 (born Feb. 11, 1959), last known addresses 902 Fulton in Beaumont and 450 Ozen St., St. Landry, La., was sentenced Friday Aug. 31, to a term of 50 years in the penitentiary in connection with his July 11, 2012, conviction by a jury of aggravated sexual assault of a child in the 2011 rape of a 5-year-old child at his Beaumont residence.

Beaumont Police welcomed three new officers to the department Thursday, Aug 23: Yatara Martin, James Wesley Powell and John Woods.

Martin has previously worked as a juvenile corrections officer for the Texas Youth Commission and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in criminal justice from Lamar University. Martin said she has always wanted to be a police officer.

Aug. 31 has been a deadly day for some Southeast Texas motorists and very frustrating for many others.

Motorists headed to their destinations were forced to find alternate routes Friday morning after a fatal crash at the base of the Purple Heart Memorial Bridge in Beaumont shut down Interstate 10 in both directions.

According to a Beaumont Police Department release, the driver of a GMC pickup truck heading eastbound in the westbound lane of I-10 collided head on with an 18-wheeler at 2:14 a.m.
