Police in Orange are investigating a deadly auto-pedestrian accident that claimed the life of an Ohio resident Oct. 9, Orange Police Department Lt. Garrold Keaton reports. 

According to a news release, officers were dispatched to the area of 2080 I-10 North Service Road shortly after 10 p.m. in reference to an auto-pedestrian traffic accident. Acadian Ambulance Service was called to the scene, but were unable to resuscitate the 44-year-old male victim, who had been struck by a vehicle still on the scene.


Police in Beaumont are searching for the suspect who robbed the Fast Lane Convenience Store at 255 Dowlen Rd. Oct. 10, Beaumont Police Department (BPD) Sgt. Cody Guedry reports.

Jefferson County Commissioners, in a 3-2 split vote, decided to go with a new management firm to breathe life – and revenue – into the multi-million-dollar publicly subsidized Ford Park Entertainment Complex, but that contract offer is in jeopardy as new questions arise and deadlines near.

Ethel Marie Eulian, 47, pleaded guilty to murdering her boyfriend, 47-year-old Christopher Jeffries Jr., a former Port Arthur Police officer, and was sentenced to 40 years in prison Oct. 7.


Beaumont Independent School District closed the $132,155,000 Unlimited Tax Refunding Bonds Series 2016 transaction, effective Sept. 21.

This decision resulted in a cash flow savings to the district of $41,641,313, which is approximately $1,892,700 per year through 2038, according a statement from the district.

The district also estimates a net Present Value savings of $31,989,357 or 22.836%.

All of this “could reduce the future debt service tax rate for BISD taxpayers about $0.0185 through 2038.”
