The problem? An inordinate number of unregistered and unlicensed guns on the city’s streets. Just the number of guns stolen from vehicles and residences in Beaumont over the last two years amounts to hundreds upon hundreds of untracked firearms that were at least one time in the hands of a criminal. Judy Hickman from Beaumont Police Records Division reports that 476 firearms were reported stolen in 2016 and 379 were reported stolen in 2015.

“We’re on a mission,” said Pamela Hayes. “We’re trying to bring these horses home.”

Pamela was referring to a number of horses still missing from the North End of Beaumont and around the area, stolen in the dead of the night by rustlers looking to make a quick buck by selling the victims’ highly valued steeds.

A 42-year-old Beaumont man has been arrested on federal charges in the Eastern District of Texas, announced Acting U.S. Attorney Brit Featherston on July 12.

Westley Judy Pollard Jr. was indicted by a federal grand jury July 6 and charged with 11 counts of mail fraud. Pollard was arrested in Beaumont the morning of July 12 and went before U.S. Magistrate Judge Zack Hawthorn for an initial appearance.
