Tara Hoch, of Beaumont, is turning her international passion into a profession.

 A senior political science major at Lamar University, her interest in worldwide affairs stems from childhood experiences abroad.

“We lived in Canada until I was six, but when I was four years old, my family relocated to the Central American country of Belize for a year while my father was involved in the Belize River Watershed Water Quality Project,” said Hoch.

Living in a foreign country was an impressionable experience for Hoch at such an early age.


A court of appeals has ruled that the 65-year-sentence against abused infant Baby Faith's mother, Christine Johson, was proper and will stand, announced Jefferson County District Attorney Bob Wortham Oct. 19.

Arlington Wood Jr, 50, of Vidor, is accused of stealing a Jefferson County Drainage District vehicle worth tens of thousands of dollars, according to an indictment returned against the suspect on Oct. 18.

A probable cause affidavit filed in Wood’s case by Sgt. Robert Bailey stated that the officer was on patrol when he received word that a small Kubota tractor had been stolen sometime around 1:40 a.m. on Aug. 10.
