Beaumont Police Officer Brian Hebert, who had been with the police department for just over 10 years and was up for a promotion to sergeant, was killed in the line of duty Friday night, July 8, 2011, during a high speed chase.

A week after The Examiner revealed tens of thousands of dollars in taxpayers’ property was being improperly and possibly illegally sold to area scrap metal dealers in Beaumont, the newspaper has confirmed Beaumont Independent School District police are on the case.

On Thursday, July 7, the City of Orange Fire Department participated in a technical rescue drill at the Solvay Solexis facility located on FM1006.  The drill scenario involved a lightning strike affecting the main process structure with one person rendered unconscious on the 5th floor level. The life size fire department rescue mannequin was utilized as the simulated victim.

The Beaumont Fire Department was kept busy Wednesday, July 6, when thunderstorms rolled through the area.

The day started around 2:30 p.m. with an electrical fire in South Beaumont, but once the storms came through, firefighters were kept on their toes going from call to call due to lightning strikes in the city.

The Stark Museum of Art, in Orange, Texas, invites families to Powerful Portraits Family Day on Saturday, July 16, between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. Admission is free and all ages are welcome.

 

Powerful Portraits Family Day will highlight portraits from the Stark collection. Children can search for clues during a scavenger hunt in the galleries and win a prize. Families will have the opportunity to try hands-on art activities and enjoy complimentary refreshments.
