Port Arthur Police detectives are working the city's latest homicide, Donzetta Vertnell Roberts, a 45-year-old Port Arthur woman was found dead Saturday afternoon in her Carver Terrace Apartment.

Police would not comment on how she died, other than to say she died from "wounds found on her body" according to a press release.

The Orange County Sheriff’s Office was contacted June 21 by representatives from the DuPont Sabine River Works in Orange concerning the theft of several thousand dollars worth of tools and equipment from inside their facility. The representatives advised that a current DuPont employee was believed to be stealing a large amount of tools and equipment from the inside the facility and selling the items on the internet for a profit.

Beaumont Police Officer Brian Hebert, who had been with the police department for just over 10 years and was up for a promotion to sergeant, was killed in the line of duty Friday night, July 8, 2011, during a high speed chase.

A week after The Examiner revealed tens of thousands of dollars in taxpayers’ property was being improperly and possibly illegally sold to area scrap metal dealers in Beaumont, the newspaper has confirmed Beaumont Independent School District police are on the case.

On Thursday, July 7, the City of Orange Fire Department participated in a technical rescue drill at the Solvay Solexis facility located on FM1006.  The drill scenario involved a lightning strike affecting the main process structure with one person rendered unconscious on the 5th floor level. The life size fire department rescue mannequin was utilized as the simulated victim.
