There’s never a dull moment with Roosevelt Petry.

A glimpse inside his office suggests as much. Dozens of plaques adorn his wall honoring him and his company’s achievements and recognizing the charity work he’s done for groups all over Port Arthur and Jefferson County. There’s a large picture of the Toyota Center, home of the Houston Rockets, with a small placard recognizing his company for its help with constructing the arena.


While the city of China might not be totally broke, it isn’t far from it, say current council members and Mayor Margaret “Peggy” Harkrider. The absence of funds in city coffers hasn’t yet gotten to the point where drastic measures have been undertaken, but as Harkrider told The Examiner, tough decisions might play out in coming months.


With Beaumont Independent School District Superintendent Carrol Thomas making the announcement last month that he was leaving the district after 16 years, the search has now begun for a new super.


After years of ups and downs as the Vidor city manager, Ricky Jorgensen is calling it quits. Although Jorgensen has yet to officially turn in a letter of resignation, he has confirmed to The Examiner his last day as the city manager of Vidor will be March 9.
