One year later, city property sits empty

When owners of Hotel Beaumont announced its impending closure in August 2011, there was plenty of concern regarding the historic building’s future. First, the roughly 50 tenants staying at the senior housing facility had to find alternate homes, and 27 employees had to find alternate jobs. Then, everyone with a stake in the revitalization of downtown Beaumont was left to contemplate what would become of the 90-year-old landmark, hoping that demolition wasn’t in the cards.

S.O.C. trip to court beneficial for local youths

 

Four-hundred-plus Jefferson County youths were seen in the county courthouse July 11, although none were there to directly participate in court proceedings. “I want to let these kids know there is more to the courthouse than getting in trouble,” Save Our Children (S.O.C.) founder the Rev. J.D. Roberts said when planning the July 11 Know Your County Courthouse program, now in its fifth year. “There is so much more than criminal proceedings going on at the courthouse.”
