According to reports from Orange County Sheriff’s Office Public Information Officer Sgt. Chad Hogan, the agency received a call about 3:30 a.m. Sept. 1 that consequently ended with a detective's firearm being discharged.

The caller reported a burglary in progress at the Super Stop Convenient Store located at 2590 North Highway 105 in Vidor.

John Wesley Nero was indicted by a Jefferson County Grand Jury on Thursday, Sept. 1, for capital murder and child pornography charges.

Nero is facing the death penalty for the death of Beaumont Police Officer Bryan Hebert, who was killed in the line of duty in July.

Update: Police say a woman driving a '91 Toyota was killed during an accident that caused both directions of Interstate 10 to shut down to one lane Wednesday, Aug. 31. The woman was driving northbound in I-10 when she came to a stop at the top of the College Street overpass. Her vehicle was struck from behind by a Dodge pickup going at full speed and she was thrown from the vehicle over the median and into oncoming traffic.

Ralph Evans, commonly known as Quanell X, is pushing for the removal of Judge Layne Walker after what he called excessive sentences for white, black and minority defendants.

Evans, who called Walker a racist for his sentencing of minority offenders, held a small rally in front of Walker’s courtroom Friday, Aug. 19.
