Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton announced Feb. 1 that a $5 million settlement with Western Union to protect consumers from wire fraud scams. The deal, which involves 49 states and the District of Columbia, resolves an investigation into complaints by people who used Western Union’s wire transfer service to send money to third parties who were involved in schemes to defraud them.

On Jan. 31, at 11:45 p.m., a Beaumont Police officer attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a stolen vehicle in the 4600 block of Harding Drive. The driver of the vehicle fled from police and drove into an apartment complex in the 5000 block of Helbig Road, BPD PIO Haley Morrow reported.
