A Beaumont man is in jail facing murder charges related to a weekend homicide, reports Sgt. Cody Guedry of the Beaumont Police Department.

According to Guedry, officers arrested 44-year-old Garrick Darnell White for murder after White allegedly shot and killed 66-year-old Joseph Simon Jr., also of Beaumont, on the evening of July 3.

The Texas Department of Transportation is conducting a public hearing to present proposed rail improvements and receive public comment pertaining to the Neches River Bridge Study.

The hearing will take place at the Civic Center, 701 Main St., Beaumont, on Thursday, July 28, 2016. Displays will be available for review at 5:30 p.m. with the formal hearing beginning at 6:30 p.m.

Crime Stoppers is asking for the public’s assistance in getting dangerous drug dealers and drug users, along with the poisonous products they carry, off the streets. To that end, The Examiner will periodically feature a list of five persons accused of drug-related crimes here in High Five.

“Crime Stoppers and The Examiner are teaming up to fight the drug problem in Southeast Texas,” Beaumont Police Officer Carol Riley of Crime Stoppers said.
