A couple of Beaumont residents banded together to form a podcast just before the last local election in May. Wake Up Beaumont’s regular listeners included candidates like Jonathan Owens and Claude Guidroz, and at the time of this article, the show’s Facebook page had 130 likes.

The podcast host, Julia, who asked that we not print her last name, said she started Wake Up Beaumont after being discouraged by the November 2016 national election.

The Hardin County Sheriff’s Office is currently investigating an escape that occurred at the Hardin County Jail.

Donavin Michael Cantwell, 28, was charged with the felony offenses of unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, evading detention and unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon.

He is described as white male, 5-11 and weighing 160 pounds, with very short brown hair, blue eyes and a heavy, short heard.

June 22 at about 5 a.m., Cantwell was able to move past guards and exit the jail during the morning feeding activity. Video surveillance captured the event.

The Beaumont Police Department, the Jefferson County District Attorney’s Office and the U.S. Attorney’s Office are combating recent violence resulting in multiple deaths and injuries, with two of its latest casualties merely children, a 7-year-old and an 8-year-old.

And at a joint press conference June 20, the law enforcement leaders had a clear message for the perpetrators of violent crime in the city: “We are coming for you.”

Wednesday, June 21, Galveston County Sheriff’s Office was notified by the Chambers County Sheriff’s Office of two elderly people reported missing Tuesday, June 20.

One of the individuals was reported to be suffering from dementia and the other was reported to have Alzheimer’s. They were believed to be in Galveston County, possibly on the Port Bolivar Peninsula.
