Haywood Drive from Concord Road to Ada Avenue in Beaumont is closed to through traffic starting Jan. 9 at 7 a.m. until noon on Jan. 11, the City of Beaumont reports.

Today, the City of Beaumont has partnered with SeeClickFix to announce a new mobile app called “Beaumont 311” that will allow citizens to report quality-of-life and non-emergency issues to the City, Chris Jarmon, executive assistant to the city manager, reported Jan 9. The app replaces GoRequest, which is the City’s current 311 mobile app.

Sunday, Jan. 8, Gov. Greg Abbott met with Taiwan President Tsai Ing-wen.

Gov. Greg Abbott met with Her Excellency, Tsai Ing-wen, President of the Republic of China (Taiwan) in Houston on Sunday, Jan. 8, to discuss energy, trade relations and commercial ties between Taiwan and the state of Texas. Gov. Abbott and President Tsai discussed ways to increase trade relations with Taiwan, particularly in the exchange of natural gas and agricultural products, of which Taiwan is a major consumer.

The first meeting of the new year for the Lumberton Band began with a “little change in the agenda,” club president Randy Eason said Jan. 3.

“Happy New Year, everyone; it’s been a good year so far,” Eason said, pausing for the audience’s laughter. “We have some special guests with us tonight.”
