When Mark Gregory “Greg” Brown, who coached physical education at Dishman Elementary for many years, passed away Wednesday, March 16, 2016, during Spring Break, he was only 53. Sensing his loss at the Beaumont school, the grandparent of a student sought to plant a living memorial to Coach Brown.

Sue Philp of Beaumont began volunteering for Nutrition and Services For Seniors (NSFS) delivering hot food through the nonprofit’s Meals on Wheels program with her mother, Nel Phillips, more than 12 years ago. After her mother passed away, she continued the family tradition of helping seniors and even enlisted her husband, Roy.

The City of Beaumont says residents' water is safe to drink in spite of an "alleged noncompliance" issue reported to the municipality by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) on Jan. 20, Public Works Director Dr. Joseph Majdalani reports.

On Jan. 25, Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton announced that the Child Exploitation Unit (CEU) of his office arrested a Lockhart man on five counts of possession of child pornography. James Brian Gorley, 33, is charged with a third degree felony and could face up to ten years in prison if convicted.

On Tuesday, Jan. 24, at 11:26 a.m., Beaumont Police officers responded to Majestic Diamonds, located at 185 Dowlen Road, in reference to an aggravated robbery, BPD PIO Carol Riley reported.

The first suspect entered the store and asked to look at some diamonds. Two additional suspects then entered, displaying pistols, and demanded the cash from the register. They demanded the jewelry and threw a bag at the owner. The owner ran into the back of the store, his dog barked and the suspects ran out and around the side of the building.
