It’s been roughly five years since Syam Investments, its owner Shannon Mays and affiliates like Diana Broussard McCoy from Port Arthur were exposed in the pages of this newspaper for bilking hundreds of Southeast Texans out of tens of thousands of dollars. And since then, those who say they were victimized by the group have been waiting for some form of justice.

But now, with the suspected criminal mastermind behind bars, they may at long last get their day in court.

Despite pulling one of the top property tax allotment checks in all of Jefferson County, on top of federal and state funding, as well as millions of dollars in annual funding from industrial agreements to keep billion-dollar properties off the tax rolls, Port Arthur ISD has found itself in routine need of additional funds from its tax base.

He was a member of Sabine Tabernacle for 87 years and leader of the Young Couples League for nearly 40 of them.

He enjoyed hunting and fishing and was an avid bird watcher. The only thing he loved more than watching the Dallas Cowboys were his daily walks with his prized Labradoodle, Molly.
