After Jefferson County’s 252nd Criminal District Court was vacated by Judge Layne Walker, who announced his departure late in 2013, Gov. Rick Perry has appointed 34-year-old Lindsey Scott,  one of many criminal prosecutors currently working at the Jefferson County District Attorney’s Office, to the position.

Southeast Texas’ coldest weather of 2014 might be tapering off as the weekend progresses, but the havoc brought about by temperatures that dipped below 25 degrees in some areas is still being felt by law enforcement agencies tasked with keeping the area’s icy roads and bridges safe from speeding motorists.

The Jefferson County Sheriff is asking the public's help in locating a probationer with a warrant out for his arrest. 

In a press release, the Sheriff's office said Derek Lee Wiliams, 27, is wanted on a motion to revoke his probation for felony burglary and theft of a firearm. 

"Mr. Williams is also wanted for questioning in several recent crimes," Deputy Rod Carroll said in the press release.

An auto-pedestrian accident claimed the life of an elderly woman in Orange over the weekend. According to a police report, 86-year-old Faye Williams Bounds of Orange was struck and killed Jan. 26 at approximately 4:30 p.m. in the 3100 block of F.M. 3247 while crossing the road after retrieving her mail.
