A Beaumont man was found guilty and sentenced to 50 years in prison Wednesday, July 23, 2014, for sexual assault of a child.

Criminal District Attorney Cory Crenshaw announced in a press release that Stevie Blaschke Hanke, 40, was found guilty and sentenced by Senior Criminal District Judge Larry Gist for the March 2, 2012, sexual assault of his nine-year-old stepdaughter.  The jury returned the verdict after less than 15 minutes of deliberation.

Saturday, July 19, the U.S. Marshals Service, acting on information forwarded by the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office Fugitive Warrant Division, located fugitive Matthew Cherry in Rotan, Honduras. In a press release, the sheriff’s office said Cherry had fled the country in an attempt to elude prosecution on the charges of failure to comply with sexual offender registry and two counts of indecency with a child.

Beaumont police are searching for a suspect who was reportedly shot by a homeowner while attempting to burglarize a vehicle at a Beaumont residence.

On Monday, July 21, 2014 at approximately 5:20 a.m, Beaumont Police Officers responded to the 2400 block of Liberty in reference to a home-owner shooting a suspect as he attempted to burglarize his vehicle.  The homeowner's motion detector was activated and he stepped out to check on it.  He saw the suspect, and the suspect charged the homeowner.  The homeowner fired one shot, and struck the suspect somewhere in the lower chest area.  The suspect fled the scene.  Officers quickly set up a perimeter, and followed a blood tr
