State District Judge Larry Gist of the Drug Impact Court of Jefferson County accepted a jury verdict and sentenced John Toran, 40, to 25 years in prison on May 22, announced Criminal District Attorney Bob Wortham.

Information presented in court indicates that on April 5, 2016, Beaumont Police Officers R. Dommert and C. Wier were conducting a routine traffic stop in Beaumont. John Toran, the defendant, was the sole occupant of the vehicle. Pursuant to a consensual search of the vehicle, the officers discovered 34 grams of concealed cocaine.

On May 21 at about 1:30 a.m., the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office responded to a call near Broussard Road and Toomey Road in Vinton in reference to a shooting, the department said in a release.

On May 6th, during the early morning hours, a victim lost his wallet which contained credit cards. Shortly after losing his wallet, one of the victim’s credit cards was used at numerous locations in Lake Charles, Deputy Chief Mark Kraus said in a release.

On May 22, at about 11:50 a.m., the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office received a call from the CSE Federal Credit Union, located at 1170 Sam Houston Jones Parkway in Moss Bluff in reference to a robbery, the department said in a release.

Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton announced May 18 that the Child Exploitation Unit (CEU) of his office arrested 55-year-old Joe Lawrence Islas, of Round Rock, on three counts of Possession of Child Pornography, a third-degree felony.
