Baby Faith’s father, Darrell Mason of Port Arthur

Darrell Mason of Port Arthur, the father of abused infant Faith Mason, received 25 years for injury to a child Feb. 29, after pleading guilty to the charge Jan. 15. Criminal District Court Judge John Stevens sentenced Mason to the maximum time allowed by a plea agreement the defendant made with prosecutors.

Southeast Texas cities and the State of Texas are taking measures to prevent impaired driving and related traffic accidents during Spring Break as tens of thousands of high school and college students across the state are released from classes for the holiday.

Primary elections are over, and the electorate has spoken. Approximately 29 percent of registered voters cast ballots in Jefferson County (42,141 of 144,998), effectively choosing who will represent their parties on Election Day in November — for the most part. Some races were too close to call a clear winner, so a few candidates will face opponents in runoff elections coming in May.

Connie Dickinson, a lovely Calder Woods resident, defies all we think we know about aging. To put it mildly, this woman is simply amazing. Connie has a Texas-sized heart for others and demonstrates it in her many volunteer efforts, and she says she has no plans for slowing down any time soon. She will celebrate her 100th birthday on Oct. 18.
