Detectives with the Beaumont Police Department arrested a suspect in an early morning shooting that occurred Thursday, Feb. 25, BPD Officer Carol Riley reported.

According to Riley, officers responded to the 4100 block of Maida Road in reference to a victim of a shooting at 3:21 a.m. Upon their arrival at the scene, they located a 33-year-old black female on the floor of an apartment with an apparent gunshot wound to her top left chest. EMS transported the woman to St. Elizabeth Hospital.

Around 500 women attended Christus’ Jasper Women’s Expo on Friday, Feb. 5, at Harvest Church in Jasper. The event brought together women from all over East and Southeast Texas to learn about and celebrate ways to achieve a lifetime of wellness.

Attendees had an opportunity to meet keynote speaker Lisa Whelchel, best known for her appearances as a Mouseketeer on The New Mickey Mouse Club and her nine-year role as the preppy and wealthy Blair Warner on The Facts of Life and an appearance on Season 25 of CBS’s Survivor: Philippines.

Beaumont Bridge Studio members Carolyn Worsham, Phyllis Mann and Linda Briggs presented a check for $498 to the Beaumont Rainbow Room, an in-house emergency supply center located within the Jefferson County Department of Family and Protective Services (DFPS) offices. Karen Soares, Rainbow Room buyer, and Katherine Read, Rainbow Room chairman, accepted the check.
