Shortly after 5 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 30, Beaumont Fire Rescue was alerted to a water leak at Parkdale Mall, 6155 Eastex Frwy. When units arrived, they determined an underground line to one of the building’s sprinkler systems had failed. That one line was shut down stopping the water leak. Parkdale Management reports 10 to 12 stores were affected by the water leaking into the building. At this time the main entrance in closed including the main center court area.

A Beaumont man charged with shooting and killing 19-year-old Marcus Simon, of Beaumont, plead guilty to murder and two counts of aggravated assault Monday, Sept. 29, announced Jefferson County Criminal District Attorney Cory Crenshaw.

Police in Orange arrested 36-year-old Orange resident Norris McGhee for public intoxication on Sept. 25 after receiving a report in regard to a possibly intoxicated person in the 1100 block of John Avenue just before 9 p.m. The caller reportedly told police that the man in question was lying in the parking lot at the location, and when police got there at about 9:10 p.m., the man, later identified as McGhee, had taken off most of his clothing - pants, shoes, and socks.

Officer Justin Kirkpatrick reports that he and other officers responded to the scene, and he spoke to McGhee.

Randall St. Julien Hancock has had a few run-ins with the law, if reports from the Orange Police Department are any indication. He made an appearance in the department’s reports (again) Sept. 25, when police picked him up for a warrant, and the officer who made the arrest reports he suspects at the time of the arrest the man was high on PCP (again).

A woman police believe was intoxicated allegedly attempted to blackmail a convenience store owner in Orange in order to acquire a cell phone on Sept. 25, according to a repot from the Orange Police Department.
