On Monday, June 19, at 5:37 P.M. Beaumont Police officers responded to the 1300 block of Pipkin Street in reference to a victim of a shooting. 

Upon arrival, officers located an 8 year old female laying in the yard in front of a residence. She had a gunshot wound to her left thigh area. Investigators were advised Darrell Oliver Lewis, 23, of Beaumont, and two other males, Anteny Deshoun Hinson, 37, of Beaumont, and Jocoby Quartez Vontoure, 22, of Beaumont, were involved in an going disturbance.


UPDATE: Due to the minimal effect of Tropical Storm Cindy, the City of Beaumont will resume normal operations Thursday, June 22 at 10:00 a.m.


The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) is urging Texans along the Gulf Coast region to prepare for severe weather, strong winds and localized flooding through the early part of the weekend.

Tropical Storm Cindy has the potential to produce wind gusts of 40 to 60 mph. These winds could cause scattered power outages, fallen trees and minor property damage. DPS is closely monitoring the weather conditions, including wind speeds.


After consulting with the National Weather Service, Jefferson County should expect to begin experiencing heavy amounts of rain beginning in the late afternoon Wednesday, June 21 and extending into Thursday, June 22 caused by Tropical Storm Cindy.

Because some local flooding may be expected, sand and sand bags will be made available to citizens and they should bring a shovel and be prepared to fill and load their own bags.

Sand will be available at the following precinct locations:

Precinct #1 - 20205 Hwy 90, China

Precinct #2 - 7759 Viterbo Rd., Nederland


Tuesday, June 20, at about 12:58 a.m., police responded to the 4500 block of Harding, about a block from where Helbig Road hits East Lucas Drive in Beaumont’s North End, in reference to multiple shots fired.

When officers arrived, Officer Haley Morrow said, they located two victims suffering from gun shot wounds inside a residence. Both victims were transported to a local hospital, where Alkevin Glenn Mire, a 28-year-old Beaumont man, was pronounced dead.
