On the eve of a deadline to give word to current Ford Park Entertainment Complex management company SMG as to Jefferson County’s intent to either keep the management team they’ve been with for 15 years or sign with a competitor, Jefferson County Commissioner Everett “Bo” Alfred reported that not only have both companies been informed of the county’s decision, but a tentative contract from new management provider Spectra was in the hands of Purchasing Director Deborah Clark as of Wednesday, Oct. 12.

Jefferson County Criminal District Attorney Bob Wortham announced Oct. 5 that a grand jury has returned a no bill in the matter of the in-custody death of Manuel Delacruz, 26, of Port Arthur on Aug. 1.

This week, Crime Stoppers needs your help in locating five fugitives wanted for drug charges.

Crime Stoppers is asking for the public’s assistance in getting potentially dangerous dope dealers and drug users, along with the poisonous products they carry, off the streets. To that end, The Examiner will feature a list of five persons accused of drug-related crimes each week in High Five.

“Crime Stoppers and The Examiner are teaming up to fight the drug problem in Southeast Texas,” Beaumont Police Officer Carol Riley of Crime Stoppers said.

Officers with the Beaumont Police Department Narcotics and Special Assignments Unit (SAU) made nine arrests for prostitution throughout the city Oct. 6, reports Sgt. Cody Guedry. The operation targeted problem areas involving prostitution complaints.
