Two Vidor men were arrested for possession of marijuana and burglary of a habitation in Vidor on Sept. 4, the Vidor Police Department reports. One of the arrestees told officers he was just "trying to do the right thing" and "clean up the yard next to my house," but police did not buy his dubious defense, and took both suspects into custody.

A major traffic switch of the eastbound I-10 lanes at the Purple Heart Memorial Bridge over the Neches River will take place Friday night, 9 p.m. – 5 a.m.. At that time, eastbound traffic will be moved to the new eastbound side of the bridge and the eastbound I-10 entrance ramp from downtown will be reopened.

Police in Beaumont are searching for a local man with diminished mental capabilities who went missing from his residence in the 2400 block of Brooklyn Street on Sept. 10. Sherman Joseph Jr., 63, of Beaumont, is approximately 6-foot-2, 160 pounds and has black hair and brown eyes. When he was last seen, he was wearing a red and black checkered flag plaid shirt.

Through the support of Jon Huntsman Sr., board member of the Beaumont Foundation of America, 34 medically underserved Southeast Texas women received free Gift of Life clinical breast exams and mammograms on the UTMB mobile van at Cristo Rey Catholic Church in Beaumont last week. One client who had an abnormal mammogram screening was referred immediately for diagnostic testing, which is also completely underwritten by the Gift of Life.
