High school students dressed in bright red jackets were spotted all over the LIT campus recently as Lamar Institute of Technology hosted the SkillsUSA Texas District 7 competition Feb. 19-20. For more than 20 years, LIT has been the host site where students have gathered to compete in various skill contests. Students traveled from north of Houston, College Station, Lufkin and Southeast Texas. More than four hundred high school students attended this years’ competition.


The 15th annual Port Neches RiverFest: Thunder on the Neches will get underway at Riverfront Park in Port Neches beginning Wednesday, April 27, and running through Sunday, May 1.


The National Weather Service is calling for a Flash Flood Watch for Southeast Texas and Southwest Louisiana until 6 p.m. Thursday, April 21. 

According to information from the weather service, at noon on Thursday radar had indicated up to three inches of rain had already fallen along Pine Island Bayou in Northwest Jefferson and Southwest Hardin counties with the activity moving slowly east across Beaumont. An additional one to three inches of rain is expected.

Crime Stoppers is asking for the public’s assistance in getting dangerous drug dealers and drug users, along with the poisonous products they carry, off the streets. To that end, The Examiner will periodically feature a list of five persons accused of drug-related crimes here in High Five.

“Crime Stoppers and The Examiner are teaming up to fight the drug problem in Southeast Texas,” Beaumont Police Officer Carol Riley of Crime Stoppers said.

Members of the Beaumont Professional Fire Fighters Association Local 399 and the Nederland Professional Fire Fighters Association Local 3339, together with the Muscular Dystrophy Association, will fan out across their respective cities Friday, April 22, with boots in hand for the annual Fill the Boot fundraising campaign to help free kids and adults from the harm of muscular dystro
