Gun trumps knife

The Beaumont Police Department (BPD) reported an aggravated robbery warrant against 63-year-old William Coleman, who was admitted to a local hospital for multiple gunshot wounds sustained when he allegedly committed an aggravated robbery on July 22 at the Everest Food Mart, 2810 Eastex Freeway.

Suspect arrested for 2005 Cleveland double murder

July 8, Shelley Susan Thompson-Lemoine, 41, of Freeport, was arrested for the 2005 deaths of Antonio and Luz Rodriguez in Cleveland, Texas. Thompson-Lemoine was taken into police custody at the parole office in Angleton by the Texas Rangers and detectives from the Cleveland Police Department.

Man sentenced to prison for fondling 11 year old

Criminal District Attorney Bob Wortham announced July 22 that a jury found Percy Andrepont, 68, guilty of two counts of indecency with a child. Judge Raquel West sentenced Andrepont to serve 50 years in prison on each count after hearing punishment evidence from an additional victim.

Continues wildfires danger in Southeast Texas

Of the 254 counties in the state, 224 of them now have instituted burn bans, reported the  Texas A&M Forest Service on July 28.

Sex offender sought

The Orange County Sheriff’s Office secured a warrant for the arrest of convicted sex offender Robert James Perry on July 21, and is asking for the public’s help in bringing the fleeing felon to justice.

Central City Baptist Church announces first gathering since fire

The Central City Baptist Church will have their first gathering since the fire at 6 p.m. Sunday, July 31. The event will be held in the parking lot at the corner of Franklin Street and Ave. E in Beaumont, across the street from the church.  This will be an outdoor event, weather permitting.

Following a guilty verdict of “intoxication manslaughter causing the death of a peace officer,” Luis Torres’ attorney presented the presiding Criminal District Court Criminal District Court Judge John Stevens with paperwork that cements the now-convicted felon’s right to appeal.
