Beginning Sunday night, March 17, bridge crews will begin the week-long process to shift traffic at the Neches River Bridge, also known as the Purple Heart Memorial Bridge. The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) says the “Big Shift” will eventually move all eastbound traffic to the westbound lanes of the bridge.

Board commissioners of the Orange Housing Authority (OHA) have terminated whistleblower and Executive Director Tanya Wilson a little more than a year into her appointment, effective Friday, March 8. This makes the second executive director the OHA board has let go in little more than a year.

Twelve Southeast Texans were indicted and arrested on federal racketeering charges in connection with a “whites only” drug distribution ring, according to an announcement by U.S Attorney John M. Bales on March 11. Four of the defendants named in the indictment also face capital murder charges.

The City of Beaumont recognized the Better Business Bureau of Southeast Texas Tuesday, Feb. 26, for 50 years of service to Southeast Texas businesses. “I want to compliment the Better Business Bureau,” said Councilmember W.L. Pate during the time allotted for councilmember comments. “They do a great job for our community and have really progressed over the last 50 years.”
