Monday morning, April 24, brought the welcome arrival of a second baby giraffe in two weeks for the Houston Zoo herd. The female Masai giraffe was born at 8:30 a.m. on Monday, April 24, to second-time mom Asali in the McGovern Giraffe Barn at the African Forest. As with her first-born, Gigi, Asali has been a cautious mother, and the keeper and veterinary teams are closely watching over the pair to ensure the calf is nursing well and the mother-calf bond is strong.

On April 29, Beaumont Police responded to the area of I-10 eastbound near Gulf Street in reference to a single vehicle accident where the vehicle flipped and people were apparently trapped inside, Sgt. Cody Guedry reported.

The Lumberton Police Department is asking for the public's help to identify the man in this photograph in reference to a burglary.

Governor Greg Abbott visited Van Zandt County on May 1, following the severe weather and deadly tornadoes that struck Texas overnight. During his visit, the Governor surveyed the damage and received updates from local officials. Following the briefing, the Governor held a press conference where he called on Texans to come together to rebuild and help those affected, as well as pray for those who were lost and their families.

At approximately 7:19 p.m. on April 28, Beaumont Fire Rescue units responded to a structure fire at 2070 Oakland. When firefighters arrived, they found the structure fully involved by flames. Firefighters made a defensive attack and were able to bring the fire under control within 30 minutes. The building appears to have been vacant with no utilities connected. The fire appears to be deliberate, and the building is a total loss.
