 A rollover accident occurred Tuesday afternoon, Nov. 22, on Highway 105, in between 2802 and the Orange/Jasper county line, about 100 yards from the scene of an earlier vehicle fire caused by a mechanical fault less than an hour before.

Orange County Deputy Scott Jacks confirmed that there were five children and two adults in the overturned SUV that rolled on the highway shoulder.

The preliminary crash investigation indicates the vehicle swerved to avoid striking another vehicle that was turning left.

Vidor City Manager Mike Kunst announced Nov. 18 that he had nominated Rod Carroll as the next chief of police for the city of Vidor, replacing Chief Dave Shows, whose last official day coincided with the announcement of the city’s nominee.

In a filing made to the U.S. Supreme Court (SCOTUS) on Nov. 10, former Beaumont Independent School District and city of Port Arthur contract electrician Calvin Walker is asking the nation’s highest court to find unconstitutional the state charges of fraud and money laundering he faces.

A man punched a Beaumont postal carrier in the face and refused to give a statement, BPD PIO Carol Riley said in a release.

A U.S. postal carrier called to report that he had been assaulted while delivering mail near Pittsburg Street and East Lucas Drive. The postal carrier was in his marked vehicle and stopped at the corner of Lucas Drive and Cleveland Street when the suspect allegedly walked up to his vehicle and punched him once in the face with his fist.

Lt. Frank Ramirez

Port Arthur police chief Patrick Melvin has selected a deputy chief, promoting Lt. Frank Ramirez to the position, according to a statement PAPD.

The selection process involved a seven-member panel comprised of city staff, community members, a public safety chief and a prosecutor from the district attorney’s office to interview all selected candidates. According to the release, the panel was impressed with all candidates and found it difficult to make a selection. However, the board unanimously selected Ramirez.
