Actress and author Jamie Lee Curtis will keynote the ninth annual Christus LiveWell Women’s Conference, an all-day event showcasing the latest in health and wellness May 12 at Ford Park in Beaumont.

Curtis is an A-list actress with starring roles in such acclaimed films as “Freaky Friday,” “True Lies,” “Trading Places” and “A Fish Called Wanda.”

A 44-year-old Beaumont woman has been sentenced for bringing prohibited drugs into a federal prison in the Eastern District of Texas, U.S. Attorney John M. Bales announced Friday, Jan. 22.

Lakista Lashau Davis pleaded guilty on Aug. 27, 2015, to conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute heroin and was sentenced to 36 months in federal prison on Jan. 21, 2016 by U.S. District Judge Thad Heartfield.

Three U.S. zoos announced a new agreement Jan. 21, 2016, with Borneo-based wildlife organizations to protect the endangered Borneo pygmy elephant. The first partnership of its kind, the effort will provide support for solutions to the frequent and sometimes deadly conflicts between people and elephants on the Southeast Asian island of Borneo.

Diagnostic Health Center has implemented a new Web-based patient referral management platform that streamlines the prior authorization process for its imaging services.

According to Ed Field, director of imaging services for Diagnostic Health, the automated processing technology helps patients get imaging procedures approved and scheduled faster while saving time and money for referring physician offices in the Beaumont-Port Arthur region.
