Police say a Beaumont woman is in custody after she slashed a JC Penny's employee while attempting to flee the Parkdale Mall store with stolen property.

On Wednesday, April 10, at approximately 6:17 p.m., police responded to the store to find the woman already in custody, a BPD press release said.

Terminated Executive Director Tanya Wilson of the Orange Housing Authority (OHA) has filed a whistleblower suit against the quasi-governmental agency for what she claims was retaliation due to her cooperation in a federal audit of the agency.

The U.S. Attorney General’s Office, heading up the Department of Justice, filed for, and received, temporary restraining order barring the Beaumont Independent School District (BISD) from implementing voting changes ordered by Texas 9th Court of Appeals. The U.S Attorney General’s Office claimed jurisdiction pursuant to Section 5 of the Voting Rights Act, which requires that any voting procedure changes in Texas be signed off on by the DOJ.
