Saturday, Oct. 19, Gulf Coast Reads will present a panel of historians at the Mary and John Gray Library on the Lamar University campus. Jan Jarboe Russell, author of the New York Times bestseller “The Train to Crystal City,” is scheduled to speak.

Russell was born in Beaumont and has been a journalist since 1972, including over 20 years of editing for Texas Monthly magazine.

The cooler temperatures are right around the corner, and beginning Oct. 5, the Miller Branch Library will present free “Music on the Patio” program for kids from toddlers up to 5-year-olds every Wednesday from 10:30-11:00 a.m. on the Miller Patio.

Jefferson County Sheriff's deputies are asking for the public's assistance finding the suspect who robbed Snappy's convenience store at 213 E. Highway 90 in China Sept. 24, Deputy Marcus McLellan stated in a news release.

Port Arthur Police reported a man’s body was recovered from the waterway near Taylor’s Bayou Bridge the afternoon of Saturday, Sept. 24.

The body was discovered after the Jefferson County Sherriff’s Office received a call at 2:07 p.m. that “a person had gone underwater at the Taylor’s Bayou Bridge on Highway 73 in Port Arthur,” according to a JCSO release.
