The Sabine River on the Texas/Louisiana border was the scene of some serious bass fishing this past weekend, and in the end Jasper bass fishing pro Todd Faircloth won with a four-day total of 49 pounds, 6 ounces and took home a $100,000 check. He bested second-place finisher Dean Rojas by 6 pounds, 10 ounces.

One man was arrested after police reported he was found with crack cocaine Monday night in Orange. According to the report, the man tried to tell police the rock-like substance was sheetrock.

A 46-year-old Port Arthur woman who pleaded no contest Tuesday, Feb. 19, to two counts of aggravated assault and admitted her guilt in a collision on U.S. 69 that caused the death of a Groves man more than a year ago was sentenced Monday, March 18, to serve five years in jail and pay two $500 fines.

Lamar Institute of Technology announced the president's and vice president’s lists for the Fall 2012 semester. For students to be included on the President’s List, they must have earned a 4.0 GPA for the semester. Students on the Vice President’s List must have earned a 3.40 to 3.99 GPA for the semester.
