Police are investigating a shooting that left a Beaumont man dead, reports the Beaumont Police Department.


The new H-E-B store at the corner of College and 11th Street in Beaumont will open its Fuel Station and Car Wash this Friday, May 15 at 9 a.m. The store’s mascot, H-E-Buddy, will be on site to hand out complimentary refreshments until 2 p.m. Following the grand opening, the fuel station will maintain daily hours of operation from 6 a.m. – 11 p.m.

The 64,000-sq. ft. supermarket is scheduled to open Wednesday, May 27 at 6 a.m. and is at 3590 College Street.


Investigators looking into a blaze at a local apartment believe a child playing with a cigarette lighter was the likely culprit responsible for initiating the fire.

Beaumont firefighters were dispatched to a reported apartment fire in the 900 block of Florida Avenue at approximately 3:40 p.m. on May 9, reports Beaumont Fire-Rescue. When they arrived, they discovered a bedroom on fire in the upstairs apartment. According to a news release, firefighters were quickly able to extinguish the fire.

Police in Port Neches have discovered the identity of a woman killed in an auto-pedestrian accident May 9, reports the Port Neches Police Department.

John David Sean "Shawn" Johnson

A second suspect sought by police in relation to the April 29 capital murder of local convenience store clerk Mettha (Metthananda) Kuruppu has been captured, reports the Beaumont Police Department.

According to news release from BPD, 19-year-old John David Sean "Shawn" Johnson was apprehended by U.S. Marshals in Spring, Texas at about 11:30 p.m. on May 8.
