The Orange County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the deaths of 15 cattle found shot on a private-property area of Mansfield Ferry Road in Vidor. Sheriff Keith Merritt said his office was alerted to the incident Monday, April 15, at approximately 8:50 a.m. by a concerned citizen traveling by the scene of the crime. According to a press release from Sgt. Chad Hogan, the cattle were all female and included several calves.

After 15 years, the Golden Triangle Fair Housing Conference is gearing up for another year of helping the citizens of Southeast Texas educate themselves about local jobs and home ownership.

The 16th annual Fair Housing Conference will be held in the Beaumont Civic Center on April 24 from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

The event is free and open to the public. A free box lunch will be served with lots of door prizes waiting for those who attend, said Londie Jones, who is spearheading this year’s event.

The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, in conjunction with local police departments and other agencies, arrested 30 individuals on felony charges of delivery of a controlled substance during a warrant roundup Tuesday, April 16.

According to the Entergy Texas website, more than 6,000 local residents were without power Sunday, April 14, as were six refineries in the Port Arthur area including Motiva Port Arthur, Valero, Flint Hills, Total, DuPont and Huntsman.

After being expelled from her church, Jessie Mae Jackson, a lifelong member of the Mt. Calvary Missionary Baptist Church in Port Arthur, said she just wanted their pastor to be more transparent with the church’s finances.

“There was a lot of conflict of interest going on,” she said. “A lot of nepotism, just stuff that wasn’t right.”
