In a meeting Wednesday, May 10, the Southeast Texas Regional Planning Commission (SETRPC) met to discuss a potential grant for the Lamar Institute of Technology (LIT) Regional Police Academy and an update on Ike Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) Housing Program, among other agenda items covered at the meeting.


The Beaumont Police Department hosted the 2013 Southeast Texas Police Memorial Ceremony on Wednesday, May 15.  This annual ceremony takes place on the front steps of our police station, 255 College.

The Lamar University Alumni Advisory Board has elected Vernon Durden of China to serve as 2013-2014 president.  Ellen Rienstra of Beaumont is past president, and Stephanie Molina of Beaumont will serve as president-elect.

An 18-year-old Port Arthur man pleaded guilty Monday, May 13, to two counts of assault on a public servant after attacking two teachers in what the victims say was a violent and brutal display of aggression at Memorial High School in Port Arthur.

An 18-year-old Beaumont man was in jail Monday, May 13, after pleading guilty to indecency with a child.

Jakari Stoner pleaded guilty to molesting a family member in Judge John Stevens' court, saying little as his sentence was read aloud.

“This is about the most disgusting thing I’ve ever seen in 34 years of practice,” Stevens said Monday.
