News release from U.S. Attorney's Office, Eastern District of Texas:

A 61-year-old Newton, Texas man has been sentenced to federal prison for child pornography violations in the Eastern District of Texas, announced U.S. Attorney John M. Bales on March 17.

John Dale Clark pleaded guilty on Oct. 28, 2014, to the sexual exploitation of a child and was sentenced to 180 months in federal prison today by U.S. District Judge Thad Heartfield.

Rayburn Country - Jasper County drug raid

Jasper County Sheriff Mitchel Newman and deputies raided a residence in Brookeland and arrested the 53-year-old resident there after discovering meth and more while executing a search warrant, reports Newman.


Port Arthur City Manager Brian McDougal announced March 16 the termination of an employee accused of theft and tampering with government documents.

Court Clerk Sharon Shelvin was reportedly fired March 12 following an investigation by the Jefferson County District Attorney's Office, with assistance from the Port Arthur Police Department, that uncovered evidence of theft of municipal court fines and tampering with official court documents, McDougal reports in a press release.


Police in Port Arthur are currently looking for suspects in a weekend shooting that injured three people, reports PAPD.

A generous board member has donated a 1.6 acre tract of vacant land across 11th Street from the Southern Pacific train station in Orange to the Friends of the Orange Depot, a non-profit organization formed to help save the depot for the city and citizens, Friends of the Orange Depot reports.
