National attention has been focused in recent weeks on sexual relations between inmates and prison staff in the wake of an escape at the Clinton Correctional Facility in upstate New York. Two inmates escaped with the help of prison tailor shop instructor Joyce Mitchell, who is reported to have had a sexual relationship with at least one of the escapees.

According to a posted agenda for the Jefferson County Commissioners Court, the elected officials are set to appoint a new judge to fill a vacancy left in the County Court at Law No. 2 office with the passing of longtime public servant Judge Lupe Flores. Under regular business to be approved by the commissioners Monday, June 22, the court will "consider filling the vacancy created in County Court at Law No. 2 ... with Mr. Cory Crenshaw, such appointment to become effective June 29, 2015.
