With 490 votes cast for a turnout of 4.65 percent of the 10,548 registered voters in Port Arthur’s District 4, Keith McCurry Richard received 303 votes, or 62.73 percent, to win the City of Port Arthur Special Election on April 2. Richard will finish the unexpired term of Stephen Mosely, who resigned from city council to run for a county commissioner’s seat.

Alicia Gayle Marshall received 180 votes, or 37.27 percent.

Devi, a one-year-old hippo calf at the San Diego Zoo, opens wide.

The river hippopotamus habitat was the hip place to be April 2 at the San Diego Zoo. The zoo hosted a party for its 100th birthday and also celebrated the first birthday of its hippo calf, Devi, who was born March 23, 2015.
