A number of high school-aged foster kids were in for a surprise Saturday night, March 2, when they were treated to a night of pampering and fun with the help of a host of local businesses and civic groups, including the Tri-City Corvette Club of Port Neches.
After eight years worth of donations, the Southeast Texas community truly came together for a special prom night for local high school juniors and seniors in the foster care system.

Capt. A. Glenn Wortham was born March 1, 1911, in Centralhatchee, Ga., and died April 4, 1977 in Beaumont. This year marked the 102nd anniversary of his birth.

A company under investigation for defrauding hundreds of Southeast Texans has changed its name, but it hasn’t kept investigators from targeting the cross-country enterprise. Initially operating under the umbrella of Syam Investments, the company and its officers are alleged to have used promises of a false “Social Security stimulus” to lure the elderly and disabled into turning over sensitive information such as bank account, Social Security and identification numbers.

Both residents and the executive director of the Orange Housing Authority (OHA) will air out gripes when the Board of Commissioners of with the quasi-governmental agency meets Friday, March 8.
OHA Executive Director Tanya Wilson has asked that an item be placed on the board’s agenda to discuss entering into a contract for the services she provides at the agency.

Once heralded as the best districting option for the stakeholders of the Beaumont Independent School District (BISD) by the agency’s Board of Trustees, the recently adopted redistricting plan is now being disavowed by those who fought the hardest to implement it. The change came after nearly a week of legal back-and-forth between the attorneys for BISD and those who say the district is operating outside of the Constitution.
