Orange Christian Services is accepting donations of clean, new and gently used blankets for its “Blanket of Hope Drive” running through Dec. 21. Those wishing to donate may drop off blankets at various collection sites throughout Orange County during each site’s regular business hours.

Col. Msgr. Francis Walter Montondon, 81, of Port Arthur, Texas, passed away on Sunday, Dec. 9, 2012 at Rose House in Port Arthur.

The dual titles reflected the reality of Msgr. Montondon’s life. He was a Roman Catholic priest appointed by Pope Benedict XVI as Prelate of Honor to His Holiness with the right to the title of Reverend Monsignor.

A hostage situation in Port Arthur ended peacefully after 28-year-old Walter Moore of Port Arthur took a 2-year-old captive and barricaded himself inside a home on the 2500 block of 61st Street.

The standoff began in the early morning hours of Wednesday, Dec. 12. By the time police arrived, Moore had closed the blinds, telling police he was heavily armed with his 2-year-old niece still inside.

At the Children's Holiday Museum Party and Tree Lighting at the Art Museum of Southeast Texas, Santa arrived in the the new Beaumont Fire & Rescue ladder truck. The annual event ended with Santa lighting the Children's Tree at 6 p.m. The event has been hosted by area museums, the Tyrrell Library, local attractions, Beaumont Main Street and local tourism agencies for over 15 years.
