Gov. Greg Abbott appointed Mike Morath on Dec. 14 to be the commissioner of the Texas Education Agency. He will oversee the Texas Education Agency (TEA) and the state’s 1,200 school districts and charter schools.

By early Monday morning Dec. 14, the City of Orange had removed a nativity scene from its traditional place on the lawn in front of City Hall after denying a request from the Orange County Atheists (OCA) to display a holiday banner on the property.

At approximately 6:30 p.m., Tuesday, December 15, 2015, Beaumont police officers responded to a disturbance in the vicinity of the Regent Apartments near Gulf Avenue. 

According to Officer Joe Ornelas, while officers attempted to handle the disturbance they were called out for, shots rang out nearby, prompting the officers to take cover. One officer was hit with what he believed to be a pellet, and was not injured.
