Jefferson County swearing-in

Jefferson County Sheriff Mitch Woods swore in six new deputies and promoted a veteran peace officer during a ceremony at the Jefferson County Jail on March 10.

Trent Ikner, Derrick Hill, Lester Reeves, Kenneth Harrell, Lim Nguyen and Todd Guidry were sworn in Thursday morning. Five of the new deputies serve as corrections officers at the jail, and one is a Reserve Deputy with the sheriff's office. All now hold the title Deputy Sheriff.

So Commissioner Bush called on the Texas General Land Office (GLO) to update methods of sharing this important information and create a web-based app to help Texans get all the information they need wherever they are.


The 14th annual Saint Joseph’s Day Spaghetti Lunch will take place on Friday, March 18, at St. Anthony Cathedral Basilica Center at 700 Jefferson Street in downtown Beaumont. Donations of $12 per meal will be collected at the door for dine-in lunches and to-go lunches.

BASF TOTAL Petrochemicals sponsored participation in the You Be The Chemist Chal

For the first time, BASF TOTAL Petrochemicals LLC sponsored the You Be The Chemist Challenge (YBTC) at Thomas Jefferson Middle School in Port Arthur. The challenge, developed by the Chemical Educational Foundation (CEF), is a question-and-answer competition that allows students to test their knowledge of chemistry concepts as they compete to represent their state on a national level.


An Orange County Sheriff's Office detective has resigned amid a federal investigation, Sheriff Keith Merritt confirmed March 10.

OCSO Detective Chad Hogan, the office's public information officer, turned in his letter of resignation March 10 after federal investigators showed up at his place of work looking for him. Federal agents also raided his home in the morning before interviewing at the sheriff's office.
