The message from the family came suddenly, without warning. 

“Long-term area Congressman Jack Brooks died this evening, Dec. 4, 2012, at Beaumont Baptist Hospital after a sudden illness. Congressman Brooks, just shy of his 90th birthday, passed peacefully surrounded by his family. The family asks that our privacy be respected as we grieve our loss.”

Aaron and Summer Conn of Vidor were killed in what Orange County Sheriff's deputies deemed a "double homicide" Friday, Nov. 23. The young couple left behind three children. Aaron Conn’s uncle Gary Rivette and aunt Sherry Dupuis are putting together a fundraiser to benefit Aaron and Summer’s three sons – Tyler, 13; Trenton, 10; and Tanner, 6.

The first ever Blue Santa “Show and Shine” was held Saturday, Dec. 1, in the Vidor Walmart parking lot from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Southeast Texans might have noticed smoke in the area today and could be curious where it is coming from. According to Larry Jinks, former fire chief and a volunteer firefighter at Johnson Bayou (Louisiana) Fire Department, the smoke is coming from an out-of-control marsh fire in Cameron Parish.

UPDATE: Auction raises at least $3,620 for Buckner this year.

The Golden Triangle Chapter of the Texas Chefs Association and the Lamar University Hospitality Program hosted the seventh annual Gingerbread Competition to benefit Buckner Children and Family Services on Nov. 29 at the Civic Center in Beaumont.
