Beaumont Animal Services and Beaumont EMS responded to a call about a dog attacking a postal carrier Tuesday, Aug. 28, at 1465 Irma in Beaumont’s south end. Upon the officer’s arrival, the victim, Alice Richmond, was being treated by EMS for multiple punctures and lacerations to her hands, legs, torso and face. Richmond was later transferred to St. Elizabeth Hospital for further treatment. Apparently the dog had broken free of a chain while the mail carrier was delivering mail to 1465 Irma.

Beaumont Police are investigating a homicide and an aggravated assault that occurred late Monday night, Aug. 27.

 Gov. Rick Perry has appointed Michael Williams as Texas Commissioner of Education.

 Williams has the leadership experience and a background in education.  He has served the U.S. Department of Education as Assistant Secretary of Education for Civil Rights. He was preceded in that position by current U.S. Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas who I worked with at the Department of Education.

A 49-year-old Anahuac man has pleaded guilty in a murder-for-hire scheme in the Eastern District of Texas, United States Attorney John M. Bales announced on Monday, Aug. 20. The accused, David Houston Sartin, pleaded guilty to attempted kidnapping and brandishing a firearm during a crime of violence before U.S. District Judge Thad Hartfield.
