Crime Stoppers is asking for the public’s assistance in getting dangerous drug dealers and drug users, along with the poisonous products they carry, off the streets. To that end, The Examiner will periodically feature a list of five persons accused of drug-related crimes here in High Five.

“Crime Stoppers and The Examiner are teaming up to fight the drug problem in Southeast Texas,” Beaumont Police Officer Carol Riley of Crime Stoppers said.

Officers in Beaumont have arrested four individuals in relation to recent game room robberies.

Sgt. James Cody Guedry reported in a news release that “detectives have worked diligently” to identify suspects in two separate game room robberies in Beaumont, one March 28 and the other April 11.

Dr. Lonnie L. Howard

Texas State University System Chancellor Brian McCall has named Lonnie L. Howard, Ph.D., sole finalist in the Lamar Institute of Technology presidential search. Dr. Howard, currently president/CEO of Clover Park Technical College in Lakewood, Washington, was selected from a field of nearly 40 candidates following a national search.

More than a year after two Beaumont Independent School District administrators were indicted on charges of conspiracy and embezzlement related to cheating on standardized tests and stealing hundreds of thousands of dollars from not only the school district but also students and their parents alike, the pair are inching closer to prison time.

A federal court judge has recommended dismissing two more defendants from the civil complaint lodged by former Beaumont Independent School District contract electrician Calvin Walker and former school district Special Assistant to the Superintendent Jessie Haynes that alleges a mass conspiracy of roughly three dozen persons and businesses.
