After a nationwide search and sifting through dozens of candidates, a committee helping to find a new police chief for the Beaumont Police Department has unanimously decided to endorse a hometown favorite.

Jimmy Singletary, who currently serves in the position of major, overseeing the CID, Warrants and SWAT divisions at the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, will be tapped to replace outgoing chief Frank Coffin, who leaves at the end of September.

A family dispute left one man with multiple stab wounds Wednesday afternoon, according to the Beaumont Police.

The skirmish occurred in the 1000 block of Georgia. The victim was taken to the hospital with "several" stab wounds to his upper arm. The injuries are not life threatening and the incident remains under investigation.

In a joint statement released by CLEAT (Combined Law Enforcement Association of Texas) members in Southeast Texas including the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Association, the Port Arthur Police Officers Association the Beaumont Police Officers Association, the Nederland Police Officers Association and the Jefferson County Constables Association, the union certified support of District Judge Layne Walker, who was the target of a rally held in the Jefferson County Courthouse by Houston New Black Panther Party leader

Lamar Institute of Technology is readying for a visit from Texas chief of emergency management Nim Kidd, who is scheduled to be the speaker for the 10th annual Salute to The Real American Heroes fundraiser benefiting The LIT Foundation. The event will be at 6 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 8, at Wesley United Methodist Church.

Josh Clark never saw it coming.
