Dorothy Anne Conn passed away Tuesday July 3, 2012.  She was very active in countless civic organizations giving generously of her time and talents to the arts. She was preceded in death by her husband and life partner Carroll (C.W.) Conn in 2004.

Drowning victim identified as Shaquill Dixon, 17

Detectives have identified the young man whose body a maintenance worker found at the bottom of the Magnolia Pool located at the Sterling Pruitt Activity Center as Shaquill Dixon, a 17-year-old resident of Beaumont.  According to preliminary autopsy reports, the cause of his death was drowning.

When the Beaumont City Council approved a tough new ordinance in 2009 to regulate taco trucks, barbecue stands on wheels and other mobile food vendors, it was responding to complaints about food handling and public safety from citizens, including some restaurant operators concerned when the trucks set up shop near their eateries – and because these mobile units did not bear the high overhead costs associated with building and health code compliance.
