The Blue Santa Program and the City of Port Arthur would like to invite the public to the city’s Annual State of Affairs Address on Thursday, April 10, 2013, at 11:30 a.m. at the Robert A. “Bob” Bowers Civic Center, 3401 Cultural Center Dr. The cost is $25.00 per person and the deadline to register is April 1. Jim Sanderson

The Texas Institute of Letters has honored Jim Sanderson, professor and chair in Lamar University’s Department of English and Modern Languages, with the Kay Cattarulla Award for short-story writing.

The institute – considered the most prestigious literary organization in Texas – presented the award Saturday, April 6, at its annual meeting in San Marcos. The award recognizes the best short story written by a Texan or about Texas.

Lamar University will announce the recipient of its 2013 University Professor Award during a program Wednesday, April 10 in the University Reception Center on the eighth floor of the Mary and John Gray Library. A reception begins at 2 p.m., and the announcement and awards are scheduled for 2:30 p.m.

The title of University Professor – awarded for life in recognition of distinguished teaching – is the most prestigious faculty award given by the academic community of Lamar University. 


Police in Orange are currently investigating a burglary of a business there. According to a report from OPD, Tractor Supply Co. at 2020 Interstate 10 was burglarized for the second time in eight days.
