The City of Nederland will hold a groundbreaking ceremony on the property adjacent to Nederland City Hall at 207 N. 12th St. on Monday, July 27, at 10 a.m. for the Nederland Veterans’ Park being constructed in the city.

NRG Stadium

The University Interscholastic League (UIL) announced that the 2015 UIL Football State Championship games will be played at NRG Stadium in Houston.

All 11-man UIL Football Championship Games will be played December 17-19 at NRG Stadium. Houston last hosted the UIL Football Championship Games for the largest conference in 2008 at what was then known as Reliant Stadium.

One-and-a-half-story home are valued at the same rate as a two-story.

A change in the formula used to determine home values in Jefferson County will cause more than 7,000 homeowners to see an increase in their estimated tax bills for the coming year, with some seeing a spike in their home’s value of 5 percent or more. The added value of the residences comes when one-and-a-half-story homes are valued at the same rate as two-story homes.

Jefferson County Appraisal District officials say the results of the change are negligible, but some homeowners disagree.

Bush signed the Americans with Disabilities Act into law July 26, 1990, and with its passage, discrimination against persons with disabilities was made criminal in hopes it would begin to diminish. Now, 25 years later, persons with disabilities, along with the rest of the nation, are celebrating the anniversary of that momentous occasion and a local fair is being held to raise awareness of ADA law.
